research has shown me that my greatgrandmother was born laura e. cumpston in lawrence county, ohio on jan. 21, 1846. her parents were james k. cumpston jr.( 1812-1849) born in pa and martha ann pendland-cumpston(1818-1886) born in ky
i now believe that george compston did not exist and that my grandfather was illegitimate in january 1864, laura married george w. mercer , george was a union soldier and killed in battle at cloyd's mountain va. on may 9th, 1864.
my grandfather was born on march 12th, 1867.
i believe that his father's last name was cannon, this is a result of some documents that i have.
laura married john wilson shannon auckerman , a widower in october 1873 in lawrence county and in 1874 they had a son named clarence. john had a daughter named rosa from his late wife melvina melinda munn-auckerman who passed away in 1872. rosa was born around 1870
sometime later john and laura adopted a son named horace
the bowen name does not connect and was made up by my greatgrandmother laura as her maiden name on frank's
death certificate in 1913
john and laura died one day apart in 1916, laura on 11/15/1916 and john on 11/16/1916, they are buried in greenwood cemetary in hamilton, ohio
